Video Recording Equipment To Enhance Police Interview Process

Two new pieces of video recording interview (VRI) equipment were handed over to the Labasa Police Station.
It is part of the Fiji Police Force’s intention to standardise law enforcement procedures in the Northern Division.
The equipment installation was possible through the support of the New Zealand High Commission and the United Nations Development Programme Fiji (UNDP).
Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro, said this was the first of its kind to be installed in the Northern Division as other divisions already had access to these services.
Ms Naisoro said the equipment was installed in the Labasa Police Station interview rooms.
She said now the investigation process would become more transparent with every detail in the interview recorded.
“On behalf of the Fiji Police Force, I convey my deepest appreciation to our donors, the New Zealand High Commission and UNDP,” she said.
“All entire interviews will be visually and clearly recorded, with the accused party and prosecuting officer appearing on camera.”
The video would then be used as evidence during court proceedings.
The equipment will allow for the admission of crimes and save time for all parties involved.
Divisional Police Commander Northern, Senior Superintendent of Police, Viliame Soko, received the equipment from the Deputy Director Organised Crime (CIDHQ), Superintendent of Police, Aiyaz Ali.
