31 Contestants Rehearse For Weeklong Event Aimed To Unite Communities

Carnival committee chairperson Satish Kumar said they were returning after two years to organise this carnival.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, the committee couldn’t stage this annual event which began in 2011.
Mr Kumar said the theme was ‘Duavata For Everyone’s Safety’.
“We have eight queen contestants, five kings, seven teens, six princesses and five Priscillas,” Mr Kumar said.
“These contestants will prepare their messages in line with crime prevention.”
The committee’s aim is to raise awareness through this carnival to reduce crime, as there has been a notable increase in the Northern Division.
As usual he said they would have the police brass band, Priscilla night, magic show, entertainment, rides and food stalls.
Anyone who wants to hire a stall can visit the Satish Motormart Variety shop number four.
The committee is excited working together with the Fiji Police Force as this will be the first carnival for this year in Labasa at Subrail Park.
“This will bring additional income to Labasa, because people would gather in large numbers to participate in the programmes,” he said.
“I would like to thank Digicel and other sponsors for their support.”
