Ground works on Lautoka’s Namoli Green Night Food Market Project has begun and it is expected to be completed by August.

The upcoming fully funded Lautoka City Council (LCC) project will be situated next to the Lautoka Bus Station.

The project will have around 70 stalls and seven cart spaces with washing and sitting facilities for both women vendors and consumers.

This is the council’s first ever major project since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Fiji.

LCC chief executive officer, Mohammed Anees Khan said the completion of the project also depended on the weather.

Meanwhile Mr Khan also highlighted that the council continued to work on the road at the bus stand.

“While we work on strengthening council engineering workforce to upskill and train, we are also engaging consultant engineers to ensure councils risks and interests are well protected in managing development projects.”

He said there were several smaller, in-house projects that the council’s engineering section managed.
