The defence counsel has objected to amended information filed in the case against SODELPA Member of Parliament, Salote Radrodro.

Radrodro’s lawyer Siminone Valenitabua filed a notice objecting to the amendment made in his client’s charges by FICAC.

He said the notice was filed under Section 279 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Mr Valenitabua earlier also filed a Constitutional Redress and a Stay of Proceeding pending the determination of the Constitutional Redress application.

However, Justice Kumarage said the file was with the Chief Justice and he was yet to give an allocation of which Judge would hear the matter.

Radrodro appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Kumarage at the Anti-Corruption High Court in Suva on Monday.

Radrodro is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining financial advantage.

She is alleged to have breached the Parliamentary Remuneration Act of 2014 when she claimed travel and accommodation allowances they were not entitled to.

The allegations were brought by the former Parliament Secretary-General, Viniana Namosimalua.

Radrodro is alleged to have falsely stated that her permanent place of residence was in Namulomulo village, Nabouwalu, Bua, and allegedly obtained $37,921.13 between August 2019 and April 2020.

Her trial was supposed to commence on Monday, however, due to Ratu Suliano Matanitobua’s trial overlapping, her trial was vacated.

The matter has been adjourned for a hearing on the objection on Wednesday.
