Social Worker Blessed To Represent Fiji On India’s 75th Independence Day

Sonia Krishnan, has been selected to represent Fiji on India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations.

She is an active youth social worker and an ambassador of youth empowerment.

Ms Krishnan, a third year law student at the Fiji National University’s and vice-president of Nakasi Youth Club, feels blessed to travel overseas and represent the country for the first time.

The programme is part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, youth exchange programme (YEP) where nine other youths will travel alongside her to be part of this event.

Ms Krishnan said her selection was possible considering her active participation in youth and social engagement activities and this was reflected in her curriculum vitae (CV), submitted to the ministry.

Selection process was done through divisional leaders from MOYS.

She applauded the Fijian Government’s continuous effort in promoting and creating healthy bilateral international ties.

“During the trip, I will try my best to learn about the historical places of India, it’s significance, the means of economic growth undertaken, and bring this ideology and knowledge back to Fiji, “ she said.

During her visit, she hopes to be a good ambassador of the country and share the beauty and hospitable nature of our people to India.

“We, youths are the future of this country and we need to wisely utilise these opportunities to make a positive impact in our nation and communities,” she said.

The dates for their departure have yet to confirmed, but, it’s most likely yo be in August, when India celebrates its independence.

Further questions on the exchange programme have already been sent to the Ministry of Youth, Permanent Secretary, Rovereto Nayacalevu. They remained unanswered.
