Multiple Interests Received For July Sail: CEO

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) has received interests from multiple cruise ships to call into Suva Port in July.
However, Chief Executive Officer Vajira Piyasena said confirmation will only be done once they received their berthing application form.
For Suva Port, he said they can only allow for two vessels at one time.
With Government and port stakeholders support, Mr Piyasena said FPCL is ready to welcome cruise vessels back in Fiji.
He said for the past few months, FPCL have had regular meetings with other port stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and Ministry for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport.
“The meeting focuses on the processes for the resumption of cruise vessel operation.”
“The process covers a broad aspect of the operation which includes boarding and disembarking processes, vetting of tour operators etc,” he said.
In preparation for the return of cruise ships to Fiji, Mr Piyasena said FPCL has in place its own cruise vessel safety operating procedure.
He adds this procedure covers all port user license holders, contractors, staff and visitors within the common user area of FPCL cruise vessel operation area.
“This is implemented in line with the Government COVID safety processes,” he said.
