Alleged Student Murderer To Take Plea In July

The man, who is accused of murdering a 17-year-old student, appeared at the High Court in Suva on Thursday.
Samuel Naicker appeared before Judge, Justice Siainiu Bull.
State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Zenith Zunaid, filed information and disclosures in the matter.
Naicker is charged with one count of murder.
It is alleged that on May 28, 2022, at Nasinu, Naicker allegedly caused the death of Divshek Chand by strangling his neck with a black tracksuit lace.
Mr Zunaid told the court that at this stage, the disclosure had 23 statements of the witnesses and the death certificate of the deceased which stated asphyxia.
He said the post-mortem report of the deceased was yet to be submitted and was yet to be provided to the ODPP by Police.
Defence counsel from the Legal Aid Commission, Lavenia David told the court that the defence was seeking the shoelace photograph which was found around the neck of the deceased.
Mr Zunaid said the same would be supplied to the defence.
The matter has been adjourned for a plea on July 12.
