Matererega: Goals For Injured Skipper

Glamada Investment Rewa football striker Rusiate Matarerenga is at the top of the Oceania Champions League goal scorer’s chart after scoring three goals during the playoffs against Lautoka.
Speaking to Fiji FA Media, Matarerenga said the goals were for injured captain Setareki Hughes.
“Seta who was watching us from the sideline got injured during the first leg. I was proud to play a part in Rewa’s 4-0 win to qualify for the OCL playoffs.
“When I joined Rewa this season I had it in mind to do my best for the team.
“I was confident last Sunday that I will score again. I kept praying to God for strength and I thank the man above for answering my prayers.”
Materega said all things were possible through hard work and team work.
“As a striker, I always want to score goals and I know there were a lot of Rewa fans expecting me to do that. I am happy to be part of the Rewa family who are always very supportive of each other,” he said.
“I thank coach, Marika Rodu for having faith in me and giving me the opportunity to be in the starting line-up for both matches.”
His next focus now is to help Rewa win the Digicel Premier League.
“And I will continue doing what’s best for them,” he said.
Rewa joins New Zealand’s Auckland City, Cook Islands’ Nikao Sokattak, New Caledonia’s Hienghène Sport and Tahiti’s AS Vénus at the OCL final stage in August with other member association clubs yet to be confirmed.
