‘SUGAR HERE TO STAY’

The sugar industry is here to stay.
This was the statement by the Fiji Sugar Corporation board chairman, Pradeep Lal at the opening of the Rarawai Mill crushing season in Ba yesterday.
Mr Lal said the Rarawai Mill had been in existence for 136 years.
He stated that despite the negative comments from many, it still wouldn’t change the fact that the sugar industry was here to stay and it would continue to support the thousands that depended on the industry.
“I salute the farmers, the mill workers and many other stakeholders who despite the impact of COVID for the last two years have continued working for this industry, providing their resilience and harvesting the cane which has made our country more sustainable going forward,” said Mr Lal.
“Many industries were affected but our sugar industry was very resilient.”
