The Digicel national women’s team is on its finals stages of preparation for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Nations Cup which kicks off on July 13 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Fiji is in the same group with Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.

National women’s head coach Lisa Cole said they would have two international friendly matches on July 5 and 9 in Lautoka.

Two overseas based- players, US-based Trina Davis arrived last week and so too for Vanisha Kumar.

“We are excited about our preparations,” Cole said.

“We have been in camp for three weeks, preparation has been good. Players have been training hard.

“We are really focused on developing ourselves and improving fitness and looking forward to getting a couple of matches next week before the competition.”

Fiji will play in its first friendly match Tonga on July 5 in Lautoka followed by Cook Islands in Ba on July 9.

“I think they have a better understanding how we want to play and how we can work with each other.

“The biggest thing now is get a couple of matches under our belt because it’s been since a while, we had a real game.

“There are three players in school, some in university, balancing between school and training,” she said.

Fiji will play its first match against Solomon Islands at 7pm on the July 14 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
