Direct flights between Fiji and Adelaide resumes today, three years after the last flight out of the Australian State, national carrier Fiji Airways said.

It is a fourth route for Australians in need of a tropical getaway.

The first flight arrives in Nadi this evening.

Fiji Airways operates two daily flights from Sydney, and daily flights from Melbourne and Brisbane.

The national carrier also welcomes the return of Vanuatu, with the first flight leaving Nadi this morning, and returning at 5.15pm.

Resumption of commercial flights to Vanuatu signifies that Fiji Airways is reconnecting them to the rest of the world, said Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Andre Viljoen.

Fiji Airways service the Vanuatu route twice weekly to Vanuatu. Tourism Fiji said the “super exciting” news marked a significant moment.

“Adding another flight to the already strong Australian market is going to be very good for Fiji,” Tourism Fiji, Chief Executive Officer, Brent Hill, said.

“I know Adelaide loves Fiji, and will want to come,” he said.

“I hope people can also discover more of Adelaide – my beautiful hometown.

“It is a good opportunity for tourists coming from Adelaide to Fiji and then on to the United States of America – after staying in Fiji,” Mr Hill said.

“The main thing is the Adelaideans coming to Fiji for a holiday,” he said.

“We have worked hard to market Fiji there, and we will continue to.”

“I’ve personally already got friends and family coming to stay on the new direct flights.”
