Tilak High School U17 Ends 15-Year Drought

The Jitesh Kumar coached- Tilak High School football side was crowned the new winners of the Lautoka Secondary Schools Under-17 champions at Churchill Park on Saturday.

Lautoka Blues striker Sekove Luma scored twice in the 4-0 victory over defending champions Natabua High School in the final to end a 15-year drought.

Luma, a Year 11 student and a member of the Fiji Under-16 squad, won the Golden Boot award for scoring eight goals in the competition. Tilak High led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second spell super sub Jeral Singh, a Year 10 student scored twice to seal the win.

The team also had Lautoka district rep Sterling Vasconcellos as their captain.

Team coach Jitesh Kumar said the competition had been tough.

“It was great to have the final played at Churchill Park.

“Players had to lift their standard and it also gave them a different feeling in terms of getting the exposure.”

The Under-19 competition will be played in term two.
