Singh To Challenge Book In Sedition Trial

Defence lawyer, Aman Ravindra Singh told High Court Judge, Justice Riyaz Hamza that he will be challenging a book of photographs in the sedition trial which starts in November.

Mr Singh said it was part of the bundle of disclosures.

He is representing 25 individuals who are charged with one count of sedition and one count of inciting political violence.

One accused person, Jolame Turagabeci passed away last year.

The matter was called at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday.

 

The 25 accused persons are: Pita Camaimoala, Mosese Tawake, Iaitia Korolala, Jese Vatusumu, Penasio Manasa Luqa, Joseva Caucau, Isireli Serewai, Rokoua Duatini, Qalita Vakacegu, Inoke Navunilagi, Tomasi Madigibuli, Vosavosa Tunakoro, Maciu Uto, Vetaia Dale, Tomasi Waqa, Sevanaia Qaranivalu, Apimeleki Wailomo, Josua Naivaluvou, Marika Qalo, Manueli Nadakua, Tevita Damudamu, Sanaila Mariqama, Tomasi Kacanavatu and Peceli Nayadra.

State lawyer, Semi Babitu highlighted that prosecution received the reply on the proposed agreed facts.

Justice Hamza said the trial would take place in November and December this year.

He also stated that the PTC check-list must be finalised by both counsels and filed by July 30.

The matter will be called again on September 12 for mention.

Bail was extended for all accused persons.
