A late starter to professional rugby, Levuka-born Teti Tela began his professional rugby career at the age of 26.

Swire Shipping Drua’s first five-eight played club rugby up until then.

At 31, he holds seventh position as the top point’s scorer of the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific, with 76 points.

The former Levuka Public School student who completed intermediate education in Auckland, New Zealand, and high school in Brisbane, Australia, played a season in Northern Spain for Getxo Artea RT.

The next level for him is keeping in the international arena, he said.

“And keeping healthy and fit for next year’s Rugby World Cup in France,” Mr Tela adds.

“That’s obviously the goal for myself.

“I’m doing everything I can to look after my body and performance on the field, throughout the next few months.

What are some places in Fiji you would take friends to?

Malamala Beach Club, in the Mamanucas, or Natadola, Nadroga.

Malamala is a great little island for snorkeling.

It has an infinity pool with a great view, if you wanted to set up there for half a day.

Natadola is another great spot for horse riding with the friendly local villagers.

With quite a nice bay, you can park there until sunset.

What are some of your favourite spots for a coffee or pie?

The Coffee Hub on Nadi backroad.

At Wailoaloa, there are a few good cafes.

In Suva, The Republic of Cappuccino (ROC).

They offer good coffee, good nibbles like muffin and brownies that go well with the coffee.

I try to stay away from the treats.

What are some of your favourite backyard spots?

The Beach Club and Sailor’s Beach Fiji – both on opposite ends at Wailoaloa, Nadi.

At any time from morning, midday or afternoon, it’s beautiful.

And the sunsets are a great compliment.

We find ourselves hanging out there on our off-sports days.

What is one place in Fiji on your bucket list?

Daliconi, Vanuabalavu, Lau.

That bay of islands is my home

village.

Early next year, when I return to prepare with the Drua for pre-season, I plan to go there, with my family.
