Junior ‘The Maverick’ Binnu Singh took out the vacant Flyweight title after a unanimous points decision win over Rahul Aaron at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Saturday night.

In the main bout of the Bula Promotions banner judges, Leca Fotu scored 99-91, Aminiasi Finau 100- 90, and Fatu Tuimanono 100-90 in a one-sided clash.

Singh’s combination of punches easily found its target while Kumar failed miserably to use his longer reach.

At times he often dropped his guard allowing Singh to land his jabs.

“My game plan was to take the fight to the distance,” Singh said.

“Rahul was often an open target for me. He needs to box, protect himself or otherwise he’ll be wasting his time.”

Singh also holds the country’s Super Flyweight title.

“I knew that he was tough, congratulations to him for a good fight,” Aaron said.

In the main supporting bout Nathan ‘The Hornet’ Singh did not disappoint the crowd as he stopped Sachin Mudaliar in the second round.

Mudalier was earlier decked in the first round but was able to beat the count.

Nathan’s body punches took its toll on Mudaliar, who was a late replacement for Ronald Naidu.

“I had trained for Ronald Naidu, but since he pulled out Sachin tried to come in,” Nathan said.

“Sachin is a good fellow. He only lasted in the second round.

“If it was Ronald I would have stopped him in the first round.”

Nathan added that he would go down and fight in the lower weight category.

Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) director (West) Usman Ali said the programme was a successful one despite other events happening in the Western division.

In other bouts, Malakai Marama stopped Tomu Gaunavou in the sixth round while Sebastian Singh knocked out Mathew Michael in the first round.
