Aotearoa, New Zealand has committed $1.77 billion (about FJ$2.41 billion) in climate finance for the region in the years 2022 to 2025.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said at least 50 per cent of this will be targeted at the pacific and the other half will support adaptation initiatives.
In an interview, Ms Ardern said one of the support adaptation initiatives was announced by her in Suva at the Grand Pacific Hotel yesterday.
“As Pacific whanau, we stand with Pacific Island countries experiencing the impacts of climate change on economies and communities, on water and food security, and on natural ecosystems and livelihoods,” she said.
