Expect a few reshuffles in the Vodafone Flying Fijians side this weekend following Teti Tela’s departure last Saturday, and Mesulame Kunavula being crossed out because of injury.

Yesterday, Fiji Rugby chief executive officer John O’Connor, confirmed that Tela flew out to Brisbane soon after Saturday’s 18-32 loss to Australia A for the birth of his child.

“It was known beforehand that he (Tela) would be leaving after the second game,” O’Connor said.

Head coach Vern Cotter, after the team’s training session at the Nadi International School ground yesterday, said: “Medical team are doing a good job and Mesu Kunavulua, who kind of already came off, like he’s got a two-centimetre tear in his thigh so he’s not available this week.

“Kiti Kamikamica came off with a twinge on his hamstring as well,” he said.

“Teti had told us earlier on he had to leave; he hurt his groin in that first half against Australia A. Ben Volavola needs to step up.”

Cotter is working on tightening up loose ends before they face Samoa on Saturday.

“We need to be more aggressive in our carry, not lose possession. And when we do something good, we will always back it up with lost possession; building on the things that we did well, which we said we were going to do after Tonga,” he said.

“So probably, I think the main message is enough talk, let’s get on with it, we all know that we weren’t good enough last week, let’s get better this week.”

Last Saturday’s loss to Australia A has put a special focus on the team’s weak areas as well.

“We have started work earlier to organise, to try and become more accurate around certain areas. We’ve got other combinations we’re looking at.

Vilimoni Botitu who plays midfield as well as his preferred position, like he came on fullback for us.

“Ben’s the only other genuine 10. We’ve got other players who can play there but Ben’s a genuine 10.”

Cotter will name his final 23 line-up tomorrow.
