The Cook Islands will hold the next Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in 2023.

Leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum had agreed that Cook Islands would host the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders and related Meetings in 2023, the Kingdom of Tonga in 2024 and Solomon Islands in 2025.

Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown could not attend this week’s meeting and representing him and the Cook Islands Government was the Secretary Foreign Affairs, Tepaeru Herrmann.

Ms Herrmann had earlier said Mr Brown was unable to attend the meeting because he was preparing for the August national elections.

She said the Cook Islands was humbled for the confidence and support bestowed on them as the incoming chair of the 2023 Forum.

She added that they have big shoes to fill, but they won’t be alone as they would have the support of Fiji, Tuvalu and all the Forum.
