Flagfall, Taxi Waiting Charges Revised Up

The unpredictability of fuel price has seen the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), in the interim, revised the taxi flagfall and waiting charges.

FCCC’s Chief Executive Officer, Joel Abraham, said it would monitor the fuel price, and other factors as part of its new framework before determining new drop charges.

The flagfall and waiting charge increases come into effect today.

The new determinations are:

  1. Drop charges to remain the same while we monitor the global market.
  2. Flagfall to increase from $1.50 to $2.30 between 6am to 9pm outside Viti Levu. Flagfall to increase from $1.70 to $2.30 between 6am to 9pm outside Viti Levu.
  3. Flagfall to increase from $2 to $3 between 9pm to 6am in Viti Levu. Flagfall to increase from $2.20 to $3.30 between 9pm to 6am outside Viti Levu.
  4. Flagfall for Airport Taxis to increase from $5 to $7.10.
  5. Drop charges to remain 10cents per 100m.
  6. Waiting charges to be 18cents per minute.

“This means that consumers will only see an increase of 50 cents per trip while also providing interim relief for drivers.”

“We would like to remind everyone that no new fares may be charged unless the taxi meter has been calibrated in accordance with the requirement under the Land Transport Act 1998 to charge the correct fares provided in this authorisation.”
