Australian PM Tells Minister Bala Of Demand For Caregivers From Fiji

The Australian Government is in talks with its Fijian counterpart to increase caregivers from Fiji under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme.
Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, met with Minister for Employment, Parveen Bala on Thursday where this was addressed before he departed Fiji.
Mr Bala said for a foreign prime minister to make comments on the employment opportunity was a win for Fiji.
He said Fiji was in the good books when it comes to the behaviours of seasonal workers in Australia.
“He mentioned that there is a lot of demand for aged-care workers because Australia has an aging population,” he shared.
“He was impressed with our work there and the training provided here.
“If we are to meet their numbers in terms of supply, then we need proper training.”
The minister is calling on Fijians thinking of joining the programme, to venture into the new deal.
“This is an opportunity for you so do not lose it,” he said.
There have been care workers sent abroad, but Mr Bala said this meant there was a need for Fiji to upscale its employment numbers.
Mr Bala bid farewell to another 110 seasonal workers scheduled to leave the country in the coming weeks where they would work in various industries in Australia.
