Maintenance works on the leaking Nabua Wastewater Pump Station along Ratu Mara Road will be delayed due to ongoing wet weather and site conditions.

As a result, the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is advising daily commuters along the Nasinu-Suva corridor to make alternative travel arrangements when school starts this week.

WAF Spokesperson Peni Shute said they could not give a definite time frame on when works would be completed because of the unpredictable weather.

“We understand that school starts tomorrow (today), but we hope that the public will follow the alternative routes,” Mr Shute said.

“We are working with relevant utility providers and contractors to carry out maintenance works which require the demolition of concrete anchor blocks with 40MPA strength to expose the leaking wastewater pipeline.”

He said 17 hours of demolition work on the concrete anchor blocks was still ongoing.

“Heavy rain at the work site area has hampered the speed of work. Due to the severity of the works, extensive traffic management is presently in place.”

The authority is requesting the travelling public to be mindful of workers in the area.
