West Road Works Completion By August

Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Kamal Prasad said all road works in the Western Division have been ear- marked for possible completion by mid-August.
A total of $376.7 million has been allocated to the Fiji Roads Authority in the 2022-2023 National Budget, for the effective management and development of Fiji’s road network.
$13.8 million will cater for the authority’s operational costs and $362.9m is to carry out a comprehensive capital works programme to keep up with Fiji’s growing need for new infrastructure and to maintain our existing road network.
Mr Prasad said the recent West road works were part of the FRA’s pothole reduction programme that started about 20 months ago from Suva.
“So, Nadi is almost finished and Lautoka we just started about one and a half months ago. So, we will go into all the roads, basically everything and then resurfaces once again. So that I think we expecting to be finished by mid-August, latest, at the end of August,” he said.
He said the strategy for road maintenance works began from city centres or from the Eastern Division to the West so that road repair works were done in an efficient manner.
“For the Queen’s Road you’ll see near Sigatoka in Korolevu all the works are going on now and then you’ll see on the King’s Road the works will start in Dama very soon. And you’ll see along Ba area it’s al- ready started so we’ll continue,” he said.
The FRA will also continue to do routine road maintenance works.
“So, there will be some roads that will be left, and you can see that we can still use some of the roads without ripping them apart for maybe another year or so. So, we just want the money and balance how much we spend on our maintenance.”
