Roy Signs Contract With Bengaluru FC

Digicel Fiji football captain Roy Krishna is excited to head back to India after spending three success­ful seasons there.

He has signed a one-year deal with Hero Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC which means that he remains in the ISL season until the end of the 2022/23 season,

“I am very pleased to sign with Bengaluru FC. It’s an exciting new opportunity for me and my family. I’ve always admired their style of play and I’m very pleased to have been approached to play for them,” Krishna said.

“It’s exciting for me at this stage of my ca­reer knowing that I still have a lot to offer and I have so much to look forward to when I go to Bengaluru.

Krishna will be training under the guid­ance of coach Simon Grayson and also see star Fijian forward playing alongside Indi­an captain Sunil Chettri as strike partners.

He will also be with some of his former teammates from ATKMB including Javi Hernandez, Prabir Das and Jayesh Rane.

“I first spoke to the coach in the initial stages of our contract negotiations and I was very impressed with his philosophy, his plans for the team including me and he convinced me that it was a good move for my career,” he said.

“I had a wonderful three years both on and off the field in India and I’m looking forward to returning to the Indian Super League for another year.

“I can’t wait to start the pre season and linking up with the team on the field. I hope I can start contributing as soon as I get there.”

The former captain of the ATK Mohun Bagan side played his first three seasons in India became the first Fijian to play in the AFC Cup.

He represented his former club (ATKMB) two years in a row at the AFC Cup.

During his three year stint he was the joint top goalscorer twice and winner of the gold­en ball in the 2020/21 season.

The 2022/23 Indian Super League season is expected to kick off in October, however Krishna is heading to India soon to start preseason with the club in the Indian city of Bengaluru.

Krishna is expected to travel to India next week.
