Professional golfer Roneel Prakash looks forward to winning today’s Islands Electric sponsored- RON-69 Pro-Am Championship 18-holes stroke format at the Lautoka Golf Course.

Prakash, who recently married his sweetheart Ranjline, who is also a school teacher, is the only professional golfer from the Lautoka Golf Club.

“Rons 69 will obviously be my first tournament after being married,” Prakash said.

“If she (Ranjline) agrees for me to win, I will. I know she will allow me to continue my golf and she has been there to support me.

“She has been my pillar of strength if I’m not playing well she will help lift my morale and I will bounce back.”

Prakash holds the course record of 10 under 59 which is yet to be broken. The course is par 69.

The event is also a reunion of top class players in the likes of former Pacific Games team-mates, Olaf Allen Jnr, Vikrant Chandra, and New Zealand based- Anuresh Chandra.

Likewise, 1995 Pacific Games gold medallist Mukesh Chand, the only local golfer to have won the Fiji Open as an amateur, is back from New Zealand as a pro to compete for the $5000 prize purse.

Other professionals in the run are Tomasi Tuivuna, Anasa Seruvatu, Zoheer Ahmad, Amitesh Chandra, Bill Sorowale, Inoke Bolakoro, Vikrant Chandra, Baroon Hussein.

Dark horses are Waisake Vati, Mohammed Buksh, Anand Lal and Emani Ratumaiyarawa.

Major sponsor and LGC executive Raymond Singh confirmed there is a strong field of professionals and amateurs for the one-day event.

“Luckily the field is limited to 69 entries, but such has been the demand that I have to cater for over 80 golfers,” he said.

“The golf link layout is in top condition and I am confident of very top scores on the day.”

Other top amateurs are Poasa Qiri, Isei Waqa, James Krishna, Lawrence Naidu, Asish Kumar, Robust Ram Reddy, and former Lautoka football coach Dennis Singh who will all fight for the $2000 worth of prizes. Amateurs –overall prizes for A, B, C and Juniors.

Tee-off at 8am. Not late entries accepted.
