Rouhit Singh has been reappointed as the Fiji Local Government Officers Association president.

Mr Singh was elected at the association’s 53rd annual general meeting at the Sugar Cane Growers Council Hall in Lautoka last week.

The election was conducted by the Fijian Elections Office. It was held again after a lapse of one year because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“I have been here for the past 20 years, it is my biggest achievement because when we see the history, I am the longest serving president,” Mr Singh said.

“Therefore, I call upon all members to unite. Our decisions should be based on what we go through and where we want to be.

“The union, for the past 53 years held strong and I’m proud to protect the rights of workers in municipalities.”

He said the association looked forward to increasing more benefits for workers.

“If a member serves between one and five years, they will receive $100 upon retirement, between five and 15 years they will receive $200 and over 15 years of service to the association they will receive $300 upon their retirement,” he said.

There are more than 200 members of the association.
