Nadi School Head Eyes Outer Island Students

Nadi District School head teacher, Anaseini Qeleca has put forward a request to Government to improve the school’s facilities so that it can cater for more students.
Ms Qeleca made the request during a talanoa session with the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the school on Saturday.
She said there were less than 100 students in some schools in the outer islands who could join Nadi District School.
The school currently has more than 600 students. She said the 90-year-old school also catered for most students who came from families who were average to low-income earners.
“We cater for the different students who come here to pursue their education as well as their higher education and also to come and be employed at the tourism industry,” said Ms Qeleca.
“Many times we have been hearing about development and a lot of assistance rendered by Government to schools in the outer islands whereby they have less than 100 students.”
“For Nadi District we have more than 600 students and most of the students come from families of low and average-income earners striving to find a job along this corridor.”
She added that students were from settlements like Navakai and Saravi.
“We have been getting instructions by our district officers to take these students on board, but our school is quite old,” she added.
“The condition of the infrastructure is deteriorating. We request to raise the infrastructure so we can take on board more students as possible.” Ms Qeleca handed over the report to the A-G.
