The hopes of Fijian football fans are on the shoulders of the Rewa football side that left for New Zealand yesterday.

Before their departure the Delta Tigers received $20,000 from Fiji Football Association and major sponsor Digicel Fiji on Sunday for their participation in August’s OFC Champions League.

Rewa is in group B with defending champion Hienghene Sports and nine-time winners Auckland City and Nikao Sokattak FC of Cook Islands.

Speaking at the press conference Rewa FC president Nazeel Buksh said the sponsorship would assist them.

“This will help ease off some expenses for the association,” Buksh said.

“I want to thank Digicel and Fiji FA for coming on board to support us.

“Rewa FC is honoured with all the support and assistance coming from the football community here and abroad.

“The team has been preparing well for a while now and I believe we have a very good chance of doing Fiji proud.

“I request Fijian football fans here and abroad especially in Auckland to come in numbers and cheer the boys on.

“We are not only representing Rewa, we are representing Fiji so we would love your support.

“Our goal is to achieve something from this competition so we could be the first Fijian team to progress further to the World Club championship.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel has urged fans to support the Rewa team.

“This is a proud moment because Rewa has proven over the years that they are a champion side,” he added.
