With over 106 claims the Sugar Cane Growers Council (SCGC) has paid over $265,000 to sugarcane families in the last six months.

Growers Chief Executive Officer, Vimal Dutt, said the last six months brought with it 53 funeral claims valued at $53,000.

He said 53 term life claims valued at $212,000 were also lodged for the same timeline.

Mr Dutt said Fiji Care as the insurance provider, offered a package that covered:

  • $3000 for term life,
    $1000 for funeral expenses,
  • $3000 for house fire, and
  • $3000 for personal accidents.

An annual premium of $52 was paid from the growers’ share of  cane proceeds facilitated from deductions at source.
