Canada Lautoka Scoop BOG And IDC Titles

Lautoka made a clean sweep in the Canadian version of the Fijian Battle of the Giants and Interdistrict competitions last weekend.
For Canada Lautoka soccer chairman David Rakesh, the two titles could not have come at a better time to cheer up his players, officials and their families after the COVID pandemic.
The toast of the Blues team was Peter Hughes who scored both winners in the two tournaments.
Rakesh, who has been the mainstay of the Lautoka Football Association in Canada, said his team made up of former Fiji citizens played their hearts out during the two tournaments.
The BOG was held at the YMCA Castle Downs Edmonton grounds on July 9 and after pool play Lautoka faced Vatukoula in the semifinal.
Following their win they came up against Nadi in the final where Hughes slotted in the only goal through a penalty.
At the same venue on July 23, Lautoka once again came out victors defeating Rewa 1-0 in the final after accounting for Nadi in the semifinal.

The goal from Hughes also came through a penalty.
Rakesh said the Six teams that took part were Lautoka, Nadi, Rewa, Navua, Vatukoula and Ba.
“The tournaments were well organized and this was good because it brought out a lot of Fiji people to the grounds to witness the games,” Rakesh said.
“A majority of the players are former Fiji residents with a handful district reps and some also represented Fiji,” he said.
“For Lautoka to win both competitions is just awesome. We thank the sports officials, team officials and players for their dedication and hard work.”
