‘No Excuse In Getting Gold’

There are no excuses in winning our first Commonwealth Games gold medal since coach Ben Gollings selection is a strategic one.
That was the gist of former Fiji 7s winger, Sireli Bobo’s message during an interview with SUNsports ahead of Fiji’s first game at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
Bobo is confident that the 13 men selected will break Fiji’s 24-year jinx at the Commonwealth Games.
He said it was time the players made good use of the optional selection by coach Gollings.
“The selection done by Ben is an optional one. There are options everywhere when it comes to positional play,” Bobo said.
“He has done that to switch players around and confuse the opposition in attack and defence.
“A well-prepared team that has skills, power and speed has no excuse not to win a gold medal in England.
“The quality of this team is unquestionable. They are a gold medal winning team. Everything depends on the boys and their game mode and how they turn up on game day, which is very important, to be switched on for the job.”
He said the team members once presented their jersey, must prove themselves worthy.
“These players carry the hopes of all Fijians on their shoulders at the Commonwealth Games. Apart from the thousands of players here the squad has been minimised to 13 of the best players in the country.
“Losing is not an option and there are no excuses when we see the calibre of players selected by coach Ben Gollings.”
Bobo believes the team has a balance of experienced and young players, with the likes of Semi Kunatani, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Jerry Tuwai, Josua Vakurunabili and Waisea Nacuqu.
“The forwards work rate is class, and they are very fit, agile and smart in breaking tackles. Their defence is good as well.
“In the back line we have utility players Kaminieli Rasaku and Sireli Maqala. The wings we have Naduvalo and Aminiasi Tuimaba, who are very fast out wide.
“Our playmakers are Seremaia Tuwai, Waisea Nacuqu and Filipe Sauturaga. They have one specialist half-back, Jerry, but if he is injured, we have Nacuqu, then there is also Filipe Sauturaga.”
