Harassed Walker Calls For More Police Patrol

A woman who was allegedly sexually harassed by a man along Wailoaloa Beach yesterday morning is calling for more Police patrol in the area.

The woman, who resides in the area wished to remain anonymous because of her safety, condemned the incident she endured along the popular Nadi beach at around 9.30am.

She usually goes for her morning and afternoon walks with her partner but since he was away at work she went alone. While on her walk along the beach area, a silver vehicle passed her carrying five iTaukei men who all seemed to be heavily intoxicated.

“They yelled out “uro” but I didn’t answer them, I pretended I didn’t hear them, they parked near the palm trees at the beach and I didn’t feel safe walking past their car,” she said.

“As I’m walking I see one guy walking down towards me. At first he said bula, but after this he started to get creepy.”

“I told him to leave me alone. He got aggressive and came towards me trying to take his shirt off.”

“I literally screamed to his friends to take their friend away from me, but they didn’t and just stared on.”

“He was coming closer to me and I took his photos, so that really pissed him off.”

The woman continued screaming and a friend who was also on his morning walk, heard her and came to assist.

They later reported the incident at the Namaka Police Station.

“We shouldn’t be worried about walking around our own neighborhood. Women should feel safe and respected,” she said.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a suspect was arrested and was in custody.
