Fiji’s next gold mine could exceed its own expectations when it commences production next year, given the rate at which is it expanding its workforce.

Canadian-registered Lion One Metals, which operates its flagship project in Tuvatu, Nadi, is ramping up mining and construction of its Sabeto plant.

With its current workforce of 160 employees, the company recently advertised vacancies for 11 designations.

“We will be up to about 350 employees by the middle of next year,” Lion One said.

Initially, the company reported moving its workforce up to 300.

The additional 50 workers, among a hive of other developments at Lion One, are indicative of the heightened investor confidence in the Canadian-registered and listed mine.

The boost is owed in part to the recent extension of the mining company’s lease.

“Had we not got the lease, we would have delayed a lot of this,” Lion One said.
