Vatukoula Gold Mines Ltd (VGML) is working with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to upgrade its training department to a registered Higher Education Institution.

The initiative will allow fresh high school graduates to enrol as apprentices, while upskilling VGML workers.

The aim is to develop high-quality and relevant qualifications which can be accredited and registered on the Fiji National Qualifications Framework.

Director of Higher Education Commission, Rohit Kishore, said that it was one of the intended outcomes of the Inaugural Higher Education Forum 2022, which focused on making higher education more industry-based.

Mr Kishore met with the training and management staff of VGML to define strategies towards the vision and mission of establishing the Vatukoula Goldmine Technical Institution (VGTI).

VGTI will be an industry-based institution that will offer the mining sector skills-related technical education and training and contribute towards the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)” Vatukoula Gold Mines was preparing its responses when this edition went to print.
