Nakama Hot Spring’s $75k Project Opens

The $75,000 anchor attraction project of Savusavu for both local and international visitors, Nakama Hot Springs, was opened by the Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar yesterday.
The Hot Springs for decades served as a natural kitchen where food was also prepared.
“We want to maintain that part of our history while creating the opportunity for Fijians to sell their dishes,” Ms Kumar said.
“And like every other landmark, our role as Government and as citizens, is to maintain them.” With the upgrades, visitors to the hot springs now have a place to sit and relax.
She said the project was completed through the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Local Government, Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) and the Savusavu Town Council.
The main objective of this project was to further develop the hot springs for it to be better utilised by people of Savusavu.
Also present at the opening was the Savusavu Tourism Association chairperson Delia Rothnie-Jones, Savusavu Chamber of Commerce president Ravi Chhaganlal, Savusavu Blue Town committee co-chairperson Judy Cakacaka and Turaga-ni-Yavusa Jovesa Logaivau.
Ms Rothnie-Jones said now more tourists both local and international would make a point to visit this place.
Mr Jovesa was delighted to be part of the opening. He said a landmark of Savusavu has been preserved keeping their story of forefathers alive.
