World Rugby Regional Training manager Talemo Waqa highlighted that the vision of the parent body is on equal opportunities and diversity.

That goes with the values of solidarity teamwork and respect.

Through the strength and conditioning course in Nadi, Deaf Rugby representatives joined the five-day session with one particular goal and that is to develop players to excel in the sport despite their condition.

“World Rugby Regional strength and conditioning Level 2 course started on Monday with representatives from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Cook Islands and Deaf Rugby which is very interesting on inclusive education,” Waqa said.

“World Rugby is about making sure that the course is available for all and as the vision statement says, sport for all, due to its values and one of our values is solidarity.”

He emphasized that World Rugby has broadened its exploration in engaging any form of rugby union, as long as they achieve what is needed at the end of the course.

“The participants will continue to preach and teach what they’ve learnt from this course.

“We work in all areas of the community, Deaf Rugby or wheelchair rugby and we are fortunate that two of them are here,” Waqa added.

“The course has progressed well. We hope that by the end of it the coaches not only are working towards their accreditation but uplift their knowledge and understanding and also its application as they go back to their countries, provinces and clubs.

“Hopefully, they can do better as strengthen and conditioning‘s main objectives are the enhancement of performances and reduce injuries. That is all we are trying to achieve.”
