The Eastern Blues women’s rugby league team has wrapped up the Vanua State of Origin Series.

This was after they beat Western Maroons 8-6 in their return clash at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, this afternoon.

Eastern Blues has now won two of their clashes. Team manager Selita Bolanavanua said they had to work hard for the win.

“It was a close one but we managed to get the win in the end,” Bolanavanua said.

“This is a very important win for us because I believe we have one hand on the series title. The girls played as a team and the result of playing as a unit proved itself.

“We were really pushed to the end and the girls had to work hard for the win. Our opponents came in a much different side today, they came in well prepared and that showed the character they have. “They gave us a good game and a learning one as well. I’m proud of the girls and their achievements but the hard work doesn’t end here.

“We have another round and our aim is to remain undefeated and consistent so we can finish the series on a high.

“I want to thank all our sponsors and all those who have contributed to us in any way to get the result we wanted.”
