The absence of veteran halfback Jerry Tuwai in the Commonwealth Games final contributed to the Fijian men’s 31-7 loss to South Africa in the final.

This was gist of Tevita Daugunu’s interview when the side arrived at Nadi International Airport on Thursday night.

Daugunu said most of their moves centered around Tuwai.

“Jerry was missing in the final which cost us a lot, he makes the calls,” he said.

“All our moves- lineouts and kick offs- and to play without him (Jerry) in the final was a big loss.”

Daugunu said it was tough but they had to learn the hard way and had to settle with the silver medal.

“We believe it was all about poor decision making that cost us the game.

The teamwork was there but the player’s individual decisions was what we lacked. To be honest we are not happy with the result. We have talked about it.”

Daugunu said for now they are taking on the positives as they prepare for their next journey.
