I Am Alone Now, Says Widow
The late Govind Swami

I am alone now.

These were the words shared by widow, Kamla Wati, who lost her husband, Govind Swami after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle along the Queens Highway in Korovuto, Nadi last Friday night.

Following the accident, Mr Swami was rushed to the Nadi Hospital by a member of the public. He died at 1am on Saturday.

Mr Swami’s son, Mohinesh alleged that the driver of the vehicle had hit his father who was on his way home from Malolo.

His father was returning from a friend’s home around 10pm after fixing a boat engine. The late Mr Swami has been a fisherman for more than 30 years.

The walk from the family’s home in Korovuto to Malolo is about three kilometres.

“He left home at 8.30am, returned at 2pm to sell the beer bottles to the bottle truck, went back to Malolo and was on his way home again at around 10.15pm when he was (allegedly) hit by the oncoming vehicle,” he said.

“My father was a nice person who was hard working.”

The family is yet to arrange his funeral service. They are awaiting the post mortem examination results.

Mr Swami is survived by his wife, Ms Wati and four children. Police said once the examination was conducted they would proceed with investigations.
