It was a privilege to have served in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). This was the sentiment shared by outgoing RFMF chaplain Major Reverend Ilaitia Tuwere.

He was farewelled by the Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu and senior officers of the RFMF in Suva yesterday.

Major Reverend Tuwere had served in the RFMF for the past seven years. He joined the RFMF in October 2014 as part of the force’s standing committee.

Prior to that, Rev Tuwere served as the head of the Nasinu Circuit where he and his family were based at the Caqiri/Nasole Methodist Church in Nasinu. In January 12, 2015 he was ordained as the RFMF chaplain.

“A highlight would be serving under three different commanders during my tenure,” Reverend Tuwere said.

“I have learnt a lot from RFMF. hile with them I managed to also study in Australia in the field of chaplain.”

“My heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the Force and all the families that we have been able to serve faithfully over the past seven years.”

Minister for Defence and National Security, Inia Seruiratu said that spiritual development was an important component for soldiers.

Mr Seruiratu said that physical development and social development was of the essence, and maintaining spiritual empowerment enabled them to carry out their duties.

“As minister responsible, I do acknowledge the role RFMF plays in maintaining safety and security of all Fijians and their contribution to global peace.”

He said that Government had high expectations of the military and the services provided by the chaplain was always of great importance in the day-to-day activity for the RFMF.

Reverend Tuwere and his family have been transferred to the Vatukarasa Methodist Division. He will head the division from December, 1, 2022.
