Becoming an entrepreneur comes with its own set of unique challenges for Nichuan Liu as the demand for her products grew.

Ms Liu said she invested about FJ$2000 to test the market and try out new ideas. The business grew and to date she has invested more than FJ$50,000.

“I started the business at the beginning of January 2021, and in nine short months, we were able to expand from candles to selling homemade mosquito repellent, lip balm, and deodorant,” Ms Liu said.

“I make beautiful candles, natural skincare, and wellbeing products.”

Our aim is to make people happy, feel beautiful and live healthily and beautifully,” Ms Liu was working in the tourism industry before COVID happened.

She started Bliss Fiji last year in Vuda Market with the help and support of her partner, Cristian Gonzalez.

“I had little to no knowledge or experience in starting a business before we started, so there was a lot of learning and research at the beginning stage,” Ms Liu said.

“As a micro business entrepreneur, I also find it challenging to play the role of jack of all trades. The designer, maker, seller, and marketing team can be overwhelming sometimes, but it’s fun and very rewarding at the same time.”

Despite the challenges she managed to persevere, learn through the journey, and grow.

“The reason I chose the name “Bliss Fiji” is because , when you receive a beautiful candle, a wonderful lip balm, a gift from nature, you feel blissed.”

Ms Liu has called on young people to venture out and start off a business.

“If you’re thinking of starting a business, don’t be afraid. Start small, try vending in a local market, give it a try and see how people like it,” Ms Liu said.

“The key is to be able to bring value to your customers, solve problems or try to find a gap in the market that needs filling, keep trying and never give up.”
