Labasa To Stay Humble: Pratap

Change of mentality and attitude are important components in Labasa’s preparations for the Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament that gets underway at Churchill Park in Lautoka, on August 26-28. The semifinals and final to be played on September 3-4.

The Ravneel Pratap coached side started their B.O.G preparations yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports, he said the team has to remain humble.

“We must not repeat what happened at the Fiji FACT,” Pratap said.

“We shouldn’t be riding high on the fact that we only do well in tournaments. This is because that can haunt us as we’ll be overconfident. We go in as underdogs because our league performance is not that good.

“Fans can expect us to give our 100 per cent in the tournament but we need to be consistent.”

Pratap added that his side has one league match this week before the B.O.G tournament begins.

“We host Suva here (in Labasa) on Saturday,” he said.

“That will be a tough game for us playing at home against a very strong Suva side.

“We will also use this game to build the team for the B.O.G. Suva is a good team to play against especially before a tournament like the B.O.G.

“We will have to test some of our combinations against Suva.

“We have capable players in the team that can make up a formidable side for the tournament.

“We have some young players in the team and the experience of Ratu Anare, Chris Wasasala and Taniela Waqa who we can always rely on upfront.

“I think that shouldn’t be a problem, I believe we should only get our combinations right for the B.O.G.”

Dubbed the Babasiga Lions, they are in Group A where they play top seed Nadi, Suva and Nadroga.

In Group A is hosts Lautoka, defending B.O.G champions Rewa, Ba and Navua.
