Cokanauto shines for Niusawa in junior javelin

Judah Cokanauto won Niusawa Methodist High School’s only gold medal on Friday.
The young man from Welagi, Taveuni, was in tears after taking out the junior boy’s javelin contest.
“I feel so proud that now I have earned something big, something that people will remember me with,” Cokanauto said.
“We (athletes) had trained and dedicated ourselves in the lead up to the final, although we have one medal.
I’m now at peace knowing that I’m taking a medal home.”
Cokanauto said the support from the school and his family had been overwhelmingly.
The old scholars, he said, had help tremendously in their preparations for the Coke Games.
“It is not often said, but island schools have the potential to excel on national competition,” Cokanauto said.
Team manager Sereana Vuniwaqa said they were grateful to Cokanauto for winning a gold medal for the school.
“I thank Judah for giving his best and he made us proud,” she added.
