Waisele Inoke’s bullet start gave him the edge at the senior boys’ 100 metres final of the 2022 Coca-Cola Games at the HFC Bank Stadium on Friday 19 August.
Claiming the blue-ribbon event after stopping the clock at 11.1 seconds, an overwhelmed Inoke said, “My good and strong start were key elements to my win.”
He dedicated his Blue-Ribbon win to his late grandmother and cousin Monika Koroidrekelevu who passed away this year.

The double Coca-Cola gold medalist had won the senior boys long jump gold earlier in the day after jumping 7.05 metres.
“At the starting line I focused at having a good start as this was very important if I want to win the race,” he said.
“The 100m it’s all about the start, I came out of the blocks fast and strong and that laid the platform for the gold win.
“The gun sounded I knew that I had to push from start to finish as the pressure was on – that carried me to the finish line.
“I had good competition on my left and right because all runners were fast but I slowed down in the last 10 metres.
“I feel great, happy and satisfied winning two gold medals in this year’s Coca-Cola Games it’s an achievement that I’ve always dreamt of.
“I participated in the mini–South Pacific Games, I have been preparing the past six months and that helped me a lot.
“I want to dedicate this medal and win to my late grandmother who passed away a few months ago.
“I also want to dedicate this medal to my cousin Monika whom we buried in Volivoli Nadroga.
