Head Of School Receives Threats Police Are Now Investigating

A head teacher of a primary school in the Tailevu Province is living in fear, claiming she has been receiving threats from the school’s former manager.
Last week, she lodged a complaint about the manager at the Korovou Police Station where it was currently being investigated. This was for trespassing and damaging properties.
The head teacher, who wished not to be named, claimed the manger had tried to put a post in the school compound to carry an electricity line to a neighbouring settlement that needed electricity.
The head teacher further claimed she tried to stop the man but could not do so because of his physical ability.
She said this was one of the many incidents where the former school manager had tried to threaten her.
However, the school manager wanted her removed because of poor leadership and attitude problems.
The manager said he had emailed the Ministry of Education to request for an internal investigation into her conduct. Undersigned by 11 of the 16-member committee, the email called for her removal to avoid Police cases.
“The community had voiced our concern regarding our HOS (Head of School) to the ministry, district meetings, Korovou Police Station and complain letters written to the PM (Prime Minister)’s office,” the email stated.
“But it seems that such leadership character is accommodated by the MEHA and no consideration has been done to our plea.
“We were told the MEHA had to intervene in previous schools she served whereby they demanded for her removal and for her to have the audacity to go her own way without proper consultation and a collaborative approach towards education.”
“We promptly request for HR to look into this seriously.”
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Anjeela Jokhan, could not disclose what was discussed about the school head. She will issue an official statement later.
“We prefer not to deal with individual schools in the media because we want to protect our system,” she said.
