New Partnership Focuses on Sustainable Environment

The Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) received a cheque of $50,000 from the Marriott International on Sunday. The new partnership focuses on environment sustainability under its Good Travel programme.
Marriott International’s APEC president, Rajeev Menon said the programme with Marriott Bonvoy was about community collaboration and the curation of purposeful experiences.
“The partnership with MES is a major milestone for all our Fiji hotels as the programme spearheads these unique experiences and more importantly supports the local communities and natural environment,” Mr Menon said.
“It reaffirms Marriott International’s commitment to support the resilience of the local communities.”
MES project manager Marica Vakacola said over the years they’ve been working in partnership with resorts, tourism operators in the Mamanuca’s.
“For the first time we are extending our conservation work to the mainland and that includes the Sheraton properties,” he said. “We are so privileged and honoured to be in partnership with Marriott International and with rivers, mangroves and reef initiatives. It actually targets the work that we do in the Mamanuca’s.”
Meanwhile the Good Travel programme will be championed by the respective hotel teams at Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay and Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji in close collaboration with MES support team from which more than 10,000 mangroves, 3,000 native & fruit trees and 1,200 coral plants will be planted on an annual basis. The cheque handover was done at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club farm in Nadi.
