‘More Investment Potential In The North’

There is a huge foreign and domestic investment potential in the Northern Division.
Investment Fiji chief executive officer Kamal Chetty and Board Chair Jenny Seeto believed there are more opportunities to explore in the North.
Mr Chetty and Ms Seeto are in the Northern Division on a three-day work visit which ends today.
Yesterday, they had a meeting with Labasa Town Council acting chief executive officer Faiz Ali.
Mr Ali said apart from the agriculture sector he wanted to see more growth in other sectors.
However, there was still huge potential for agro-based business in Labasa particularly sugarcane and rice and it could be expanded into ginger, fishing and tourism.
“There is a shift of population, that is why Labasa has been able to move much faster,” Mr Ali said.
He has requested Investment Fiji to look into other investments such as manufacturing to create employment opportunities.
Mr Chetty said the purpose for the meeting was to identify potential growth in the Northern Division and to have an understanding of logistic parts where there was project hold up.
“We want to get the right investors to the Fiji Northern Division,” Mr Chetty said.
Ms Seeto was pleased to see development taking place in Labasa.
“We are not focusing only on foreign investors but also on domestic investors.”
She said a very good example was the Vuo Supermarket in Vunika, Labasa.
