Cavuru: I Lost My Silver Medal And Luggage

Fijiana 7s utility back Lavena Cavuru wants to replace her Commonwealth Games silver medal by winning a medal at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town, South Africa, next weekend.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bronze medallist revealed to SUNsports yesterday that she had lost her silver medal while returning home from Birmingham, England, last month.
“The medal was in my luggage,” she said.
“When we arrived home my luggage was missing. I lost the medal and a few other items. They tried to trace my luggage and until today, it cannot be located. I want to replace that silver medal with another medal from the World Cup.”
The former Fijian women’s football rep said she has put everything behind her and is now targeting the World Cup Sevens title.
“As a team our primary aim is to perform to our best. To do what the coach wants us to do. The people of Fiji want us to win as well and we’ll try our best to do it.”
Her mum Alisi Lewavulawai was at Nadi International Airport to wish her well.
“This is a proud moment for me to see my daughter fly out and try to do Fiji proud in sports especially rugby sevens,” she said.
Cavuru dropped out of school when she was in Year Eight. She grew up in the village of Naqelewai in Naboubuco, Naitasiri and attended Naqelewai District School from Year One to Year Six before moving with her family to Lautoka.
