United States President To Host First US-Pacific Island Country Summit

United States President Joe Biden will host the first ever US Pacific Island Country Summit, in Washington, DC on September 28-29, 2022.
According to a statement issued by the White House on Friday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the Summit will demonstrate the United States’ deep and enduring partnership with Pacific Island countries and the Pacific region that is underpinned by shared history, values, and people-to-people ties.
The Summit will also reflect the broadening and deepening cooperation on key issues such as climate change, pandemic response, economic recovery, maritime security, environmental protection, and advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific.
When contacted yesterday about Fiji’s participation, Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan said, he would release a statement later in the week.
