Tanu Gets A Glimpse Of Her Possible Future

Beverly Tanu, got a glimpse of her future following a rare consultation with two prominent university representatives from the mainland.
The Fiji National University (FNU) and University of the South Pacific (USP) are in Rotuma visiting schools and communities, in a bid to empower people with educational opportunities at tertiary level.
They are Margret Gabriel and Nevote Qaniuci respectively. Ms Tanu is taking a yearlong break after completing her year 13 early this year.
The Saukana, Juju, native has spent all that time thinking about possible career paths.
“We don’t have a good internet connection here in Rotuma so it is really hard for me to search for the career path that I want,” she said.
“While in school, I have been thinking of studying tourism in university.”
Ms Tanu was consulted on her opportunities by the representative from both universities and made a decision to study Tourism and Hospitality Management at USP.
“They were really helpful as both of them provided opportunities that we hardly get on the island,” she said.
Her education will be paid for by her father, who is a farmer on the island.
Additionally, Ms Gabriel told teachers from all the schools around the island that it was important for them to pursue further education for their own betterment.
She also said that even with a lot of internet disruptions, it must not dampen their spirits trying to upgrade their qualifications.
