Time For Our Newbies To Shine

The onus is now on our upcoming Fiji Airways Fijian men’s players to show what they have got at this weekend’s Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town, South Africa.
With France-based Sireli Maqala opting out in the eleventh hour, head coach Ben Gollings believes he has the players that could get the job done.
Barring any upset, the Waisea Nacuqu-captained side should now know where they stand after their opening clash against Wales.
The Welsh, who were the 2009 World Cup Sevens winners, takes on Korea tonight in the pre-Round of 16. The winner plays Fiji at 4.05am.
So, let’s take a look at our newbies who will be in action this weekend.
FILIPE SAUTURAGA
The tough Police Blue wing is a match winner.
He played at halfback at the Commonwealth Games when Jerry Tuwai got injured.
Sauturaga, is in the mould of the late Lemeki Koroi and Fero Lasagavibau.
Strong in defence and someone to count on when the pressure is on.
PHILIPO BUKAYARO
The man who is groomed to be our next Tuwai.
He’s got the class and the footwork to break the opposition defence, but a few more outings should get him there.
However, this weekend, he needs to bring everything he has learnt so far and boost our chances of winning.
JEREMAIA MATANA
A promising player who must step-up his game. Out of his respect for the senior players Matana seemed to be holding back at times.
This weekend he needs to be on the driving seat and should be leading the charge.
ELIA CANAKAIVATA
Our rugged forward comes in handy during the breakdown, makes strong carries and has this never-say die attitude.
Missed the Commonwealth Games but is in top form for this weekend.
VUIVIAWA NADUVACO
A great finisher with speed to burn. However, he needs to work on his tackling, which has been a setback.
Hope, he has worked on it and he’ll be our trump card.
